Let’s Talk Color of the Year

The Pantone Color Institute created the Pantone Color of the Year in 1999 “to engage the design community and color enthusiasts around the world in a conversation around color.”  To say the institute succeeded would be an understatement.  Today, twenty-five years after its founding, the Pantone Color of the Year is now a major global event and has inspired several other companies and organizations to make their mark on design trends by naming their own color of the year.  Here is just a sample of some of the top colors for 2024.

Peach Fuzz bridges the youthful with the timeless.

PANTONE

On December 7, 2023, Pantone announced Peach Fuzz as the 2024 Pantone Color of the Year.  In the formal announcement, Letrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute said, “In seeking a hue that echoes our innate yearning for closeness and connection, we chose a color radiant with warmth and modern elegance. A shade that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless.”

As part of their collaboration, the HGTV network and Sherwin Williams have created a 2024 Color Collection of the Year called “Renewed Comfort.”  The collection features a range of gentle and cheerful neutrals.  It includes their pick for color of the year “Persimmon.”  Described as “an earthy terracotta shade,” Persimmon combines a tangerine base with neutral tones to make it ideal for adding a subtle, energizing color without overwhelming a space.

 BEHR PAINT

The Behr Paint company has gone with a bold choice of a soft black called “Cracked Pepper” for the 2024 Color of the Year.  In a press release, the company explained it chose the color after conducting market research that showed more than 50% of participants believe darker colors give a room a “designer aesthetic.”  The research also indicated that people find darker colors help to create a look described as “bold” and “fresh.”

Jeffrey Alexander’s Theodora Collection in Blue Steel

One thing the selected colors all have in common is they all feel versatile and fresh.  While we love all the colors, we are definitely feeling partial to the Benjamin Moore Blue Nova, which looks a lot like our Blue Steel Jeffrey Alexander vanities!  We are looking forward to seeing the creative ways designers will use all these colors throughout 2024.
