The Pantone Color Institute created the Pantone Color of the Year in 1999 “to engage the design community and color enthusiasts around the world in a conversation around color.” To say the institute succeeded would be an understatement. Today, twenty-five years after its founding, the Pantone Color of the Year is now a major global event and has inspired several other companies and organizations to make their mark on design trends by naming their own color of the year. Here is just a sample of some of the top colors for 2024.

PANTONE
On December 7, 2023, Pantone announced Peach Fuzz as the 2024 Pantone Color of the Year. In the formal announcement, Letrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute said, “In seeking a hue that echoes our innate yearning for closeness and connection, we chose a color radiant with warmth and modern elegance. A shade that resonates with compassion, offers a tactile embrace and effortlessly bridges the youthful with the timeless.”

HGTV HOME BY SHERWIN WILLIAMS
As part of their collaboration, the HGTV network and Sherwin Williams have created a 2024 Color Collection of the Year called “Renewed Comfort.” The collection features a range of gentle and cheerful neutrals. It includes their pick for color of the year “Persimmon.” Described as “an earthy terracotta shade,” Persimmon combines a tangerine base with neutral tones to make it ideal for adding a subtle, energizing color without overwhelming a space.

BENJAMIN MOORE
Benjamin Moore Paint has selected Blue Nova as their Color of the Year for 2024. This cheerful yet sophisticated blue can create a dramatic drenched effect when combined with other blue tones or can be used to as an accent color. Benjamin Moore has developed a Color Trends 2024 palette that includes Blue Nova and a range of other colors the company says, “take inspiration from hues experienced through travels and moments that span beyond routine.”

DUTCH BOY PAINT
Dutch Boy Paint has selected a nature-inspired olive green as their 2024 Color of the Year. “Ironside” is a rich, deep green that can create a dramatic impact while offering a soothing sense of well-being. “Ironside is rooted in comfort and creates a space that is elegant and charming,” Dutch Boy said in a press release.

BEHR PAINT
The Behr Paint company has gone with a bold choice of a soft black called “Cracked Pepper” for the 2024 Color of the Year. In a press release, the company explained it chose the color after conducting market research that showed more than 50% of participants believe darker colors give a room a “designer aesthetic.” The research also indicated that people find darker colors help to create a look described as “bold” and “fresh.”

Valspar
Valspar has chosen a tranquil shade called “Renew Blue” as their 2024 Color of the Year. This calming hue is described as “a balanced blue with a touch of grayed sea-green.” Similar to the Sherwin Williams color pick, “Renew Blue” can be used as a neutral foundation that works well with a range of darker or brighter hues.

One thing the selected colors all have in common is they all feel versatile and fresh. While we love all the colors, we are definitely feeling partial to the Benjamin Moore Blue Nova, which looks a lot like our Blue Steel Jeffrey Alexander vanities! We are looking forward to seeing the creative ways designers will use all these colors throughout 2024.
