Quiet Luxury

The fashion industry is a key influencer for design trends across industries. The term “Quiet Luxury” describes garments made from high-quality materials that are well constructed but devoid of status symbol logos. Due in part to the growing awareness of the negative impact of fast fashion on the environment, consumers are being more conscientious when selecting items for their wardrobe and their home. They consider these purchases to be investments they will have for years to come. The Quiet Luxury look combines simplicity and sophistication without being ostentatious. It features lush textiles for pillows and throw blankets, soothing colors, and polished surfaces with a touch of nature like plants or abundant natural light. The key is that all the elements in the space are chosen with intention and create an effortlessly timeless look. Family Dynamics

According to a Pew Research study cited in the 2024 ASID Trend Outlook, the number of Americans (aged 25 to 49) married with children has decreased by 40% since 1970. At the same time, adult children are living with their parents for longer, as key life milestones like finding full-time work and achieving financial independence are happening later. In addition, seniors are living longer but may need help with activities of daily living as they age. The result of all these demographic shifts is an increase in the number of multi-generational households. Designing spaces for these households creates unique challenges for designers who must guide clients to design choices that support their current family dynamic but also are flexible as things change over time. Check out some smart tips provided in this article from AARP’s website that offers specific tips for designing multi-generational spaces that are safer and more comfortable for everyone.

 Technology Expectations

Consumers have growing expectations for technology integration in the home. Manufacturers have responded by developing systems and appliances that can be connected to the internet and easily controlled via an app on the homeowner’s phone. This ability provides homeowners convenience, peace of mind, and potential cost savings. Other high-technology innovations are focused on comfort and convenience. In the bath, features once considered luxuries like smart toilets with features like automatic lids and self-cleaning functions, are expected to become standard bath features over the next decade.
