Transitional design combines traditional and modern aesthetics to create spaces that are comfortable and inviting. While it may sound straightforward, design professionals know that striking the right balance can be a challenge, especially in the kitchen. The design team at Carriage House Custom Homes and Interiors of Franklin, Tennessee, has over 50 years combined design experience and has earned a stellar reputation for providing clients the best of modern design with a touch of southern charm.

Franklin, Tennessee, located just over 20 miles outside Nashville, has experienced significant growth in the past decade. The area has attracted a diverse clientele from big city urbanites looking for a slower pace of life to country music luminaries and even movie stars. It’s reported that Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman have a home in the area. “As our area evolves, our clients and designs evolve with it,” said Kelsey Benton, Showroom Coordinator at Carriage House. For many of the new residents an elevated country feel alongside clean line modern and a touch of nature is the ideal mix. “Our clients are a constant source of inspiration,” says Benton.

A recently completed project showcases how the Carriage House designers used the Tiffany Collection from Jeffrey Alexander to bridge traditional and modern. The home was in a small town in the heart of Tennessee, and the client wanted a kitchen “that was transitional with a hint of rustic charm to match the area.” To achieve the desired look, they chose neutral grey cabinetry and white countertops that brought out the warmth of the beautiful natural wood floor. Shiplap walls added depth and interest to the space. To contrast the stainless steel appliances and add warmth, the designers suggested adding contrasting metals. The Tiffany Collection in Satin Bronze was selected to coordinate with the bronze faucet and light fixtures. “Mixing metals and sizes often enables us to help our client design a more personalized space,” explained Benton.

Cabinet hardware can be a unifying element that ties diverse elements together and makes a space feel harmonious. It also plays an important functional role, especially in the kitchen. The designers at Carriage House chose Jeffery Alexander to strike the right balance between style and functionality. “We look to Jeffrey Alexander products because of their wide range of designs and offerings,” said Benton.
