White-on-white kitchens and baths are always in fashion.
Summer loves the color white. White sand beaches. White dresses. White wine.
So it’s gratifying to know that Vogue magazine names “milk white” one of the top 10 colors for summer. Because who knows more about fashion than Vogue? And who knows more about fashionable white-on-white kitchens and baths than designers like you?
Trends come and go, but we can all agree that white kitchens and baths stand the test of time. Those neutral backdrops with white cabinets, white walls, and white tile backsplashes and shower surrounds make it easy to accessorize with splashes of color, pops of pattern, or touches of texture. That’s where cabinet hardware shines—literally and figuratively.

It’s also difficult to choose the right paint color for a room intended to be dressed in white. The differences between one white and the next are subtle, but real. A modern farmhouse kitchen might need bright white paint to do justice to white Shaker cabinets, stainless-steel appliances, and polished-marble counters. A lakeside cabin’s master bath may call for warm white walls to complement honed-limestone countertops and cabinet doors sporting beaded-board panels.

She asked designers for their go-to whites and received these suggestions (among others): Benjamin Moore’s Simply White: a modern, clean white that works well with gray tones; Pointing by Farrow & Ball: a classic white with a hint of warmth that doesn’t veer toward yellow; and Dover White by Sherwin Williams: a soft white—neither harsh nor antiseptic—that’s great for kitchen cabinets.
